Serial Dilution Calculator

The Serial Dilution Calculator streamlines the process of calculating transfer and diluent volumes, as well as concentrations at each dilution step based on the given stock concentration, dilution factor, number of dilutions, and final volume per dilution.

Use Our Serial Dilution Calculator

Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Serial Dilution Calculator

Step 1: Provide Stock Concentration

Begin by entering the initial concentration of your stock solution. This value is essential as it serves as the starting point for your serial dilution calculations.

  • Stock Concentration: Enter a numerical value greater than or equal to 0.000001 as per the required validation.

Step 2: Select Stock Concentration Unit

Choose the unit that corresponds to the concentration of your stock solution. This ensures proper tracking of concentration changes throughout the dilution process.

  • You can select from the following units: Molar (M), Millimolar (mM), Micromolar (µM), or Nanomolar (nM).

Step 3: Input the Dilution Factor

Enter the dilution factor that represents how much the stock solution is diluted in each step. A common choice is 2 for a 1:2 dilution ratio.

  • Dilution Factor: The value must be 1 or greater.

Step 4: Specify the Number of Dilutions

Indicate how many sequential dilutions you will perform on your stock solution.

  • Number of Dilutions: You may choose between 1 and 20, as per the validation constraints.

Step 5: Enter Final Volume per Dilution

Provide the desired final volume for each dilution step in milliliters (mL). This volume determines the amount of solution that each diluted sample will contain.

  • Final Volume per Dilution: Input a minimum of 0.001 mL.

Step 6: Review Transfer and Diluent Volumes

Once you input all necessary fields, the calculator will compute the following:

  • Transfer Volume: The volume you need to transfer from one dilution step to the next.
  • Diluent Volume: The amount of diluent required to achieve the desired final volume.

Step 7: Examine Dilution Concentrations

The calculator will also provide the concentrations for each dilution step and the final dilution’s concentration. You can review these to ensure that your dilution series achieves the desired concentrations:

  • Dilution 1 Concentration, Dilution 2 Concentration, … , Final Dilution Concentration: All concentrations are calculated in the selected stock unit.

Follow these steps sequentially to ensure accurate and effective use of the Serial Dilution Calculator for your experimental needs.
