Using the Significant Figures Calculator

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for utilizing the Significant Figures Calculator to either count or round significant figures of a given number.

Step 1: Enter the Number

Begin by entering the number you wish to analyze into the designated input field labeled “Enter Number”. This field accepts numerical inputs such as decimal numbers, whole numbers, or scientific notation values. Note that this field is required, meaning you must input a value to proceed with any calculation.

Step 2: Select the Operation

Next, choose the desired operation from the dropdown menu labeled “Operation”. You have two options:

• Count Significant Figures: This option will count the number of significant figures present in the provided number.
• Round to Significant Figures: This option will round the given number to the specified number of significant figures.

This selection is also required, so ensure you choose one before proceeding.

Step 3: Specify the Number of Significant Figures

Input Field: “Number of Significant Figures”
If you selected “Round to Significant Figures” in the previous step, you must specify the desired number of significant figures in this field. Enter a value between 1 and 15. For example, if you want the number rounded to three significant figures, input ‘3’. This field is required if rounding is selected.

Step 4: View the Results

After completing the required fields, the calculator will display your results:

• Number of Significant Figures: If you chose “Count Significant Figures”, the calculator will provide the count of significant figures in the entered number.
• Rounded Number: If you opted for “Round to Significant Figures”, the calculator will show the rounded version of the number according to your specified significant figures.
