How to Use the Soil Calculator

This guide will help you use the Soil Calculator to determine the area, volume, weight, and number of soil bags required for your plot. Follow the steps below to ensure accurate results.

Step 1: Enter Plot Dimensions

  1. Plot Length (meters): Enter the length of your plot in meters. This value is required and must be at least 0.1 meters. Use the field labeled “Plot Length (meters)”.

  2. Plot Width (meters): Enter the width of your plot in meters. This value is also required with a minimum of 0.1 meters. Use the field labeled “Plot Width (meters)”.

Step 2: Specify Soil Depth

Required Soil Depth (centimeters): Input the desired depth of soil in centimeters. This value must be between 1 and 1000 centimeters. Fill this in the field labeled “Required Soil Depth (centimeters)”.

Step 3: Select the Soil Type

Choose the soil type you will be using. The options available are Topsoil, Sandy Soil, Clay Soil, Loam Soil, Mulch, or Compost. Each type has a specific density that will be used in calculations. Ensure you make a selection as this is required.

Step 4: View the Results

  1. Area: The area of your plot will be calculated automatically. It is displayed in square meters (m²) and rounded to two decimal places.

  2. Volume Required: The volume of soil needed for your plot will be calculated in cubic meters (m³) and rounded to two decimal places. This value is based on the plot dimensions and soil depth.

  3. Weight Required: The weight of soil required will be computed in tonnes. It considers the volume and chosen soil type’s density and is shown rounded to two decimal places.

  4. 40L Bags Required: The number of 40-liter soil bags needed will be given. This is calculated by converting the soil volume to liters and dividing by 40, rounding up to the next whole number.

Follow these steps carefully to utilize the Soil Calculator effectively to plan your gardening or landscaping project accurately.
