This calculator helps you design stair stringers by calculating the necessary dimensions based on your input values. Follow the steps below to accurately determine the stringer’s details:
Step 1: Input Total Rise
- Total Rise (inches): Enter the total vertical height from the base to the top of the stairs in inches. Ensure your value is between 24 and 144 inches, with increments of 0.125 inches allowed.
Step 2: Input Total Run
- Total Run (inches): Enter the total horizontal length required for the stair span. The value should be between 36 and 168 inches, with increments of 0.125 inches.
Step 3: Input Stringer Width
- Stringer Width (inches): Provide the stringer board’s width, which should be within 9.25 and 11.25 inches, incrementing by 0.125 inches.
Step 4: Input Tread Depth
- Tread Depth (inches): Enter the depth of each tread. It must range from 9 to 12 inches, adjustable by steps of 0.125 inches.
Step 5: Select Stringer Material
- Stringer Material: Choose the type of lumber for your stringer. Options include 2×12 Lumber or 2×10 Lumber.
