Step-by-Step Guide to Using the United Airlines Miles Calculator

The United Airlines Miles Calculator helps you estimate the award miles you can earn on a flight based on several factors like flight type, fare class, flight distance, and your MileagePlus status. Follow the steps below to calculate your potential miles.

Input Fields

  1. Select Flight Type:

    Choose the type of flight you are planning. You have two options:

    • One Way: Earn miles for a single journey.
    • Round Trip: Earn miles for a full trip, both outbound and inbound.
  2. Select Fare Class:

    Select the fare class of your ticket from the available options. Each fare class has a corresponding earning rate:

    • Basic Economy (K, L, T, N): Earning rate of 1x.
    • Economy (Y, B, M, E, U, H, Q, V, W): Earning rate of 5x.
    • Premium Economy (O, A, R): Earning rate of 7.5x.
    • Business (J, C, D, Z, P): Earning rate of 10x.
    • First (F, A): Earning rate of 11x.
  3. Enter Flight Distance:

    Input the total distance of your flight in miles. The distance should be between 1 and 50,000 miles.

  4. Select MileagePlus Status:

    Indicate your current MileagePlus status from the options below. Your status determines the bonus multiplier for miles earned:

    • Member: 1.0x
    • Premier Silver: 1.2x
    • Premier Gold: 1.4x
    • Premier Platinum: 1.6x
    • Premier 1K: 1.8x

Calculate Your Miles

  1. Base Award Miles:

    The calculator computes the base miles using the formula:

    Base Award Miles = Flight Distance x Fare Class x (2 if Round Trip, otherwise 1)

  2. Status Bonus Miles:

    If you have a MileagePlus status above “Member,” you earn status bonus miles. The formula used is:

    Status Bonus = Base Award Miles x (Member Status Multiplier – 1)

  3. Total Award Miles:

    The total miles you can earn is the sum of the base miles and the status bonus:

    Total Award Miles = Base Award Miles + Status Bonus Miles

  4. Premier Qualifying Points (PQP):

    To calculate your PQP, the following formula is used:

    PQP = Flight Distance x 0.1 x (2 if Round Trip, otherwise 1)
